The Doldrums

I can’t seem to sit still and concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes at a time.  There are too many distractions, and I’m too willing to be distracted.

The next issue is in its final phases before publication.  We’re just waiting for a few final things to fall into place.  Stay tuned.  There are a LOT of great art, short stories, and poems in this issue, which is clocking in at about a hundred pages.  My hope is that everyone who opens an issue will read it from cover to cover and appreciate not only the work that we at Faraway put into making the issue look good, but of course all of the time and effort that the creators put into their works.  Several of the authors who appear in this issue have self-published novels, or have been published professionally, like Vic Fortezza, whose story in this issue I really enjoyed.  I look forward at some point to finding enough time and money to read all of them, and I have no doubt that plenty of these writers will have novels published in the future.

Publishing an eZine: 5 Tips to Help You Save Time and Money

by Daniel Sawyer

In 2007, after trying for months to get my short stories and poetry published in established magazines, it slowly dawned on me that perhaps I could start my own literary journal and publish myself. The prospect was instantly daunting, but I forced myself to go through with it because I am passionate about writing. With a group of friends and relatives, I founded Faraway: A Journal of Art & Literature in 2007, for the purpose of giving writers like myself a free, easy outlet for their writing. To date, the journal has published dozens of stories, poems, and works of art by over twenty contributors in five countries, but it was never easy. Below are five of the most important lessons we’ve learned in the year and a half since we started publishing the journal, which will help future magazine publishers avoid common pitfalls.
